The Eminence Delta-Lite II is just amazing. If you recall, I built this cabinet with this particular speaker in mind. This speaker is so accurate I am really blown away. It has been installed since July and adding this speaker has really made this project worthwhile! I have used Eminence speakers before and generally like the way they sound. I have used Eminence Tonkers in combo amps and my good friend has a Tonker and SwampThang in a 2X12 cab. Oh, and I put an Eminence 12 inch in my son's Mesa F-30. So this ain't my first rodeo with Eminence. Don't misunderstand, I am not an exclusive Eminence promoter. I also am a fan of Celestion speakers. I have a 2X12 cab with a Greenback reissue and a Vintage 30, and I love the way it sounds.
But, this Eminence Delta-Lite II truly sounds amazing. I can tell you that it reproduces tone accurately, but you really need to hear it to understand. It has an amazing bottom end. Fat and tight sounding. I hooked up my bass guitar through the Pod running the Bassman amp model and no cabinet model and with 150 watts I was able to rattle the garage doors. Playing with the cabinet models gave me very pleasing nuances and bass tones. And the home made cabinet was still sounding tight and clean. Re-EQ'ing the acoustic guitar was necessary, but in no time I had fat natural sounding acoustic tone.
I am now running a Fender Lace California acoustic pickup in my Epiphone EJ200 jumbo, after the unfortunate accident. What accident, you ask? I stepped on the cable of my DiMarizo DP136 Super Natural Plus and ripped it from the pickup body. Sucked! So when I ordered the Lace California I paid the extra $10 and got the end pin jack model. Let me digress, the tone of these two pickups is totally different. I like the tone of the cheaper $59 DiMarzio DP136 Super Natural Plus much better than the more expensive $89 Lace California. Tone is subjective, and no two people hear sounds the same way. But to my ear, with my application, cab, Pod and guitar, the DiMarzio sounded better. It goes to show that more expensive does not necessarily mean more tone.
Back to point, the Eminence speaker made this cabinet come to life tonally. It also made it more versatile, easily handling the deep bass guitar notes. It was well worth the cash I spent for it.
Man this thing turned out better than I ever dreamed it would. I am having a ball playing with all the tones the Pod has available and being able to accurately reproduce them. The more I play with it the better I can make it sound! I even hauled this thing to a outdoor pig roast we played. It had plenty of volume, awesome tone and the 3/4 plywood construction was rock solid. I did though, knock a couple of dents in it and chipped a couple of pieces of plywood laminate off loading and unloading it in the van.
This thing sounds to good to let it get beat up like that. If I am going to drag it around, and I am, maybe I should cover it with some Tolex or something... hmmm... Now that's a thought!
Ramblings of a nut job...
